This is OUTSTANDING, Dan! I'm an Internal Medicine physician and a former large commercial health insurance executive - and I didn't know these steps. I just would get the care out of network - and then file a case with an independent external review organization when the insurance denied coverage.

But this is much much(!) more effective AND time-efficient.

Thank you for all you do.

I wrote in from the contact page but never received a confirmation email. Do you know if that's working?

Long story short, I love this episode, and would like to volunteer to help get a community/mutual aid network started to advocate for with exactly this. Please let me know whether or not you received my message. Thanks!

We see you, and we got your message, and we love this! (Also, the contact page really should have a confirmation email. Dang. Thanks for letting us know about that gap as well. We'll figure out how to mend it.)

Great article, super useful, super daunting. This is why a bunch of us therapists stay out of network and provide clients with super bills at the end of the month that they can then submit to their insurance companies for partial or full reimbursement, though I cannot begin to say which plans do or do not reimburse making the reimbursement range from 0% to 100%.

Dan, have you done a piece on the commodification of mental health yet? If yes, please point me to the link. Keep up the good fight, knowledge is power. With gratitude.
