I have many horror stories but won't bore anyone with them. I WILL bore you with a success story about my housemate though lol.
In 2017 she needed major spinal surgery. She had employer sponsored coverage at the time. She scheduled the surgery for mid December, right before her benefit year ended. And she called and got a cost estimate before the surgery date.
She had the surgery, waited for the bills to come in, went through every bill with a fine tooth comb, and ended up paying ZERO dollars for a 7 hour spinal surgery complete with 2 day hospital stay.
I'll never forget the day she got the final bill in the mail with a confirmation of ZERO DUE on it. What a happy and amazing day.
And what a shame that people residing in the U.S. have to worry about medical debt at all.
